Dental Implants:

Crowns and conventional bridges or dentures may not be your only options when replacing missing teeth. For some people, dental implants offer a smile that looks and feels very natural. Surgically placed below the gums over a series of appointments, implants fuse to the jawbone and serve as a base for individual replacement teeth, bridges or a denture.

Implants offer stability because they fuse to your bone. Integration of the implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural and some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes.
Candidates for dental implants need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. A thorough evaluation by Dr Staples will help determine whether you are a good candidate for dental implants.

Cosmetic Dentistry:

A smile can be the most eye-catching feature of a face. With dentistry's many advances, you no longer have to settle for stained, chipped, or misshapen teeth. You now have choices that can help you smile with confidence.

Even the most subtle change in your smile can make a dramatic difference in the way you look and feel about yourself. Some options are:

· Tooth whitening ( bleaching) brightens teeth that are discolored or stained. Bleaching may be done completely in the office or we have a system for you to use at home.

· Bonding can improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, broken, cracked, stained, or have spaces between them. With bonding, tooth-colored materials are applied, or bonded, to the tooth surface.

· Enamel shaping involves modifying teeth to improve their appearance by removing or contouring enamel. The process, which often is combined with bonding, usually is quick and comfortable and the results can be seen immediately.

· Veneers are thin custom-made shells designed to cover the front side of teeth. Made of tooth-colored materials, veneers are used to treat spaces between teeth and teeth that are chipped or worn, permanently stained, poorly shaped or slightly crooked.

Root Canal Treatment:

Inside each tooth is the pulp which provides nutrients and nerves to the tooth, it runs like a thread down through the root. When the pulp is diseased or injured, the pulp tissue dies. If you don't remove it, your tooth gets infected and you could lose it. After the we remove the pulp, the root canal is cleaned and sealed off to protect it. Then we place a crown over the tooth to help make it stronger.

Most of the time, a root canal is a relatively simple procedure with little or no discomfort involving one to three visits. Best of all, it can save your tooth and your smile!

TMJ:

Two joints and several jaw muscles make it possible to open and close the mouth. They work together when you chew, speak, and swallow. These structures include muscles and ligaments, as well as the jaw bone, the mandible (lower jaw) with two joints, the TMJ’s.

The TM joint is one of the most complex joints in the body. Located on each side of the head, these joints work together and can make many different movements, including a combination of rotating and translocational (gliding) action, used when chewing and speaking.

Several muscles help open and close the mouth. They control the lower jaw (mandible) as it moves forward, backward, and side-to-side. Both TM joints are involved in these movements. Each TM joint has a disc between the ball and socket (see diagram). The disc cushions the load while enabling the jaw to open widely and perform rotating and translocational movements. Any problem that prevents this complex system of muscles, ligaments, discs and bones from working together properly may result in a painful TMJ disorder.

Crowns & Bridges:

Crowns: You may need a crown to cover a tooth and restore it to its normal shape and size. A crown can make your tooth stronger and improve its appearance.

It can cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't enough tooth left. It can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that's already broken. A crown is a good way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped. It's also used to cover a dental implant.

Bridges: If you're missing one or more teeth, you may notice a difference in chewing and speaking. There are options to help restore your smile. Sometimes called a fixed partial denture, a bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great, and literally bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. The restoration can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination of these materials and is bonded onto surrounding teeth for support.

Unlike a removable bridge, which you can take out and clean, a fixed bridge can only be removed by a dentist

Complete & Partial Denture:

Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework.

If you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, whether from periodontal disease, tooth decay or injury, complete dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile. Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. You’ll be able to eat and speak—things that people often take for granted until their natural teeth are lost.

There are various types of complete dentures. A conventional full denture is made and placed in the patient’s mouth after the remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed which may take several months. An immediate complete denture is inserted as soon as the remaining teeth are removed. We take measurements and make models of the patient’s jaws during a preliminary visit. With immediate dentures, the denture wearer does not have to be without teeth during the healing period.

Tooth Colored Fillings:

Composite fillings are a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium that produces a tooth-colored filling. They are sometimes referred to as composites or filled resins. Composite fillings provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is removed when the dentist prepares the tooth, and this may result in a smaller filling than that of an amalgam. Composites can also be "bonded" or adhesively held in a cavity, often allowing the dentist to make a more conservative repair to the tooth.

Periodontics – Gum disease:

At Staples Dental Care we are concerned about our patients overall health.Studies show that what dental professionals have long suspected is true: Infections in the mouth can play havoc elsewhere in the body. While more studies are needed, patients with periodontal disease may be at a higher risk for heart disease, stroke, uncontrolled diabetes, pre-term births and respiratory diseases.

If you value your oral and overall health, a periodontal evaluation is a good idea. Many times the only way to detect periodontal disease is through the periodontal evaluation. Some symptoms to be aware of are:
· Bleeding gums
· Loose Teeth
· Bad Breath
· Puffy Gums
· Receding Gums

General Dentistry:

Dr. Staples is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and enjoys this field because it allows him to do all forms of dentistry. It includes, when trained in these areas, such things as fillings, root canal treatment, crowns, bridges and reconstruction. Other areas included under general dentistry are periodontal treatment and bite correction.

Sedation Dentistry:

We have learned that many of our patients and friends in the community stay away from the dentist due to fear of the dentist. In order to overcome that, we have trained in sedation dentistry, which allows us with oral medication and no IV in your arm, to sedate you to the level that you will not remember the procedure, although you will still be conscious. This allows the dentist to use verbal commands such as open and close but the patient is oblivious to what is going on. Many of our patients who in the past have felt extreme anxiety love this service.

The benefit of this service is that you won’t remember a thing.

Laser Dentistry:

We have studied laser dentistry for some time and do use it for soft tissue services in our office. This is comfortable way to modify the gum tissues for esthetic purposes. We are not convinced at this point that laser dentistry is in anyway better for hard tissue work. In other words, it doesn’t work any better than the hand piece or air abrasion.

The benefit of this service is to esthetically improve your smile with minimal work.

Neuro Muscular Dentistry:

Is a form of analyzing and testing the muscles of the face and jaws for hyperactivity caused by bite problems. This also allows us to use a listening device similar to ultrasound to analyze the condition of the joint and to be able to tell if there is displacement of the disc or arthritic damage in the joint. This new high tech equip has greatly improved our ability to diagnose pain of the head, neck and face.

Oral Surgery:

We are trained in most areas of oral surgery and have considerate experience with wisdom teeth removal, implant placement, bone grafting, sinus lift surgery as well as simple extractions. For many years there were no oral surgeons in the area, so Dr Staples was forced to develop techniques in these areas.
The benefit of this service is that you can get all your work done here. You don’t have to go to different dentists that only specialize in one area. Dr. Staples does it all.

Full Mouth Reconstruction:

Our training in this area goes back to the 70’s where Dr Staples trained at the LD Pankey Institute in Florida. That is an institute dedicated to the improvement and perfection of reconstructive dentistry and bite correction. He further studied under a man, Harold Gelb from New York, who invented the Gelb Splint. We went on to further educate ourselves in the orthopedic relationship between the upper jaw and lower jaw and how to establish the most comfortable positions for the patient. This leads us into several years of studying and working in the orthodontic areas to best understand the treatment of bite problems. Hence, smile correction and bite correction go hand in hand to result in the overall quality of service for the patient.

We are continually updating and upgrading our equipment and our continuing education to serve our patients better.

Bacteria Testing/CariFree Testing
We now have a way to test a patients’ susceptibility level to cavities! We take a swab of two teeth and put it in a machine that measures the amount of bacteria collected. If you have a high number of bacteria, we can prescribe a simple rinse treatment to arrest the infection.

Even is you brush, floss and visit your dentist regularly, harmful levels of the decay-causing bacteria may still be present.

A bacterial infection on your teeth can also be transmitted to others. Studies show that harmful decay-causing bacteria can be transmitted to other members of your household.

If the bacterial infection remains untreated, progressive steps of decay could include: cavities, leading to root canals, crowns and eventually tooth loss.

Lumineers

LUMINEERS are porcelain veneers that offer the painless way to a permanently whiter and perfectly aligned smile. We can apply these contact lens-thin "smile shapers" to teeth without any grinding or shaving, transforming teeth into a naturally beautiful smile that looks perfect for every individual. LUMINEERS can even be placed over existing crown or bridgework without having to replace them.
